We are visitors here. Origin unknown. Destination unknown. My practice centers around improvisation, experimentation and the exploration of the intersection between the physical and the metaphysical; the point where science can no longer adequately explain things.

In this current body of work I’m playing with the idea of portraiture.  What are we really? Yes, we inhabit these bodies, these finite physical forms.  But what about the energy that enlivens our cells, molecules, atoms…and, at a macro scale, the cosmos?  Is THAT what we are?  These paintings are informed by this quandary and inspired by the ineffable essence of specific friends, family, and collectors.

My process is very sculptural - additive and subtractive.  All the materials that were once on the paper are scraped away with a palette knife. Their surface has no depth.  They are completely flat, like some kind of abstract, handmade photograph.
